As of March 1, 2015, you will no longer receive a state inspection certificate (sticker). The state of Texas will now have 1 sticker for both registration and state inspection. A State Inspection is still necessary and you will be given a receipt for your records. If you decide to go into the Tax Collector office to renew your registration, you will take that receipt with you. You will need to inspect your car prior to registering your vehicle. The state database will have record of your "PASSED" inspection.
Step One: Inspect car when your inspection sticker is due.
Step Two: Keep your receipt.
Step Three: Register your car as usual.
Beginning March 2016 - you will inspect your car within 3 months prior to registration expired.
